Robert van Embricqs gave the information about his latest work called “Rising Chair”. The flat surface you’ll eventually sit down on was the foundation of any chair. Using this notion as a starting point, several cuts were made in the flat surface and pulled up the different beam-like strands of cut surface. The preliminary was created but already distinct features of any chair: back, seat and legs.
With the rhythm of the wooden beams, an organic shape was given on the chair. When the chair was still down, the cuts were most visible. But at that stage of the construction, shape of the chair, which would take in the end, was unknown. The various arches of the wooden beams the chair was made up of determined this. There was a special connection between the creator and the material.
