Jannis Hülsen: the Micro-organism Stool (Xylinum)

We have ever heard that micro-organisms can be used for industrial processes, like yeast cultures for production of bread, alcohol or cheese. Now, it is surprising that micro-organism can also be used to create the unique furniture, such as a stool. Jannis Hülsen used bacteria to create a cellulose skin over the surface of the stool. The bacterium, which is used, is Xylinum. The stool design is the transformation between the natural and unpredictable processes into a planned design. Apparently, the cellulose material is similar to other materials, such as leather or parchment, because of its appearance is like to the skin. The unique stool uses Alder wood due to its fine and regular structure and drying properties.
