Man Made Toronto is very unique, featuring basket lamps, shelving, tables and other interior products. Stephen Burks, collaborated with basket weavers in a village outside of Dakar, transformed raw and recycled materials into useful things. The furniture design reflects social and cultural values, and creates new forms and aesthetics. The unique furniture is the integration between the traditional processes and contemporary design. We can see in the materials, which are sweetgrass and colorful recycled plastics. The process of materials is coiling like weaving due to form a central spiral outward, and then the bundles of sweetgrass are ‘stitching’.
